Riders on the Orphan Train In-Person
Through a unique blend of historical fiction, archival imagery, and original music, Riders on the Orphan Train explores the poignant legacy of America’s largest child migration. Humanities scholar and novelist Alison Moore and musician Phil Lancaster share the true stories of over 250,000 children sent across the country between 1854 and 1929 in search of new families. The presentation features moving photographs, interviews with surviving riders, and a dramatic reading from Moore’s novel Riders on the Orphan Train, followed by an open discussion on the historical and cultural impact of this little-known chapter in American history. This program is offered in partnership with the National Orphan Train Complex Museum and Research Center.
