Beginning Drawing Class – Supplies Information

All students will receive a drawing book and a #2 pencil, provided at no cost.

For the first class, please bring:

• A notebook or pad for class notes

During the first class, we’ll review the full list of tools and materials that will be used throughout the course. These include a mix of pencils, charcoal, conte crayons, and other basic supplies. Costs will be kept minimal. Rough estimates can be provided in class (or in advance upon request).

This list will be explained in detail during the first class. No need to purchase everything right away.

Let's Meet Carla!

Born and raised in Wyoming, Carla has been drawn to both art and nature since childhood. Her work is often described as “nature-inspired art that soothes the soul,” a reflection of her deep connection to the natural world and her talent for quiet, expressive detail.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in fine art with a minor in education from the University of Wyoming. After college, she spent time in Michigan and Utah before settling in Arizona. Twelve years ago, she and her husband left city life behind and made Sedona their home.

A lifelong artist, she has worked as a freelance and commissioned creator, with works held in private—and a few public—collections across the country. Teaching has remained a parallel passion, rooted in a family tradition of educators and creatives. With over three decades of experience, she continues to find joy in helping students build strong foundations in drawing and creative expression.

Her favorite subjects are grounded in the natural world, and her preferred media—pencil, charcoal, and oil paint—have remained constant since high school. With a gift for nuance, a keen eye for color, and a love of foundational skills, she brings patience, enthusiasm, and insight to every beginner drawing class she leads.
